Five years have passed since a huge earthquake and tsunami struck
the Tohoku region on March 11, 2011, killing more than 16,000.

It was a tragedy like a nightmare; the earthquake was the biggest one that Japanese people had ever experienced. "Is there no God?",,, I thought to myself.
それはそれは悪夢のような壮絶さでした。
それは日本人が過去経験した事が無いほど大きな地震。
「もはや神はいないのか？」
そう思わざるを得ませんでした。

My area also had serious damage - lifelines such as water, gas and electricity were cut off - so many people were forced to live as refugees; it was hard days for us.
私の住む地域も水道・ガス・電気のライフラインが断たれる等のかなり酷い被害を受け
その被災生活の日々は大いなる試練となりました。
However, upon this unprecedented disaster, we in Japan received massages of sympathy and encouragement from more than 150 countries and territories, nearly 40 international organizations, including AfDB, and people all around the world. I would like to reiterate my sincere thanks to all of them that came to our aid.
しかしながらこの未曾有の災害に際し

そして世界中の方々からお見舞いと励ましのメッセージが届いたのです。
ここに改めまして、皆さまより寄せられました温かいご支援に御礼申し上げます。
In the near future we may have a big earthquake again in Japan. According to some scholars, a major earthquake could occur at any moment now.
近い将来、また日本で大地震が来るかもしれません。
学者によれば、それはもういつ起きてもおかしくないと。。。
But I'm sure we can overcome whatever obstacle ahead because of the traditional Japanese Spirit.
が、我々ならこの先どんな障害も乗り越えられると確信しています。
我々には伝統的な「大和魂」が備わっているのですから。
We are not alone. We are together with everyone in the world. We all live our own separate lives - but all under the same blue sky.
我々は独りではありません。
世界中の人と共にいます。
皆それぞれ別々の人生を歩んではいますが
同じ青い空の下で生きている･･･そう思います。
And the dark night is never continued.. The sun and hope will be rising. Warm spring comes soon! Life is very precious for everyone, so let's enjoy each minute of it!
そして暗い夜明けにも必ず明るい朝がやって来ます。
ほら、温かい春はスグそこに！
人生は誰にとっても尊いのだから
毎分毎秒を楽しんでいきましょう！
